Sound As Good As You Look

A quick checklist for podcast recording in Riverside.fm

  1. Check your microphone and headphone cable connections.
  2. Log into your studio (Riverside.fm)
  3. Check your: name, headphone status (always using them), “logging in” role (guest, host, producer, audience), camera selection, microphone selection, and speaker/headphone selection.
  4. Enter your studio.
  5. Perform a quick microphone scratch-test and laugh-test to ensure that the proper microphone is selected and that the loudest signals aren’t distorting.
  6. Keep microphone proximity in mind at all times. With the radio/podcast microphone standard (Shure SM7b or MV7), 2-5 inches from the microphone is recommended. **pro-tip** Microphone proximity is to audio; as focus is to photo/video.
  7. 90% of good audio comes from the setup and capture. Everything in post-production is an enhancer (not a fixer).
